Folder/Document Options

In this tutorial I am going to be showing you How to Cut, Copy, Paste, Create Shortcut, Delete, Send, Rename, and View Properties in folder/documents

The following methods can also be used in files and other similar documents.

    CUT

    This option is used to move an item (folder, document, etc) from one location in the computer system to another.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the folder/document you want to cut to another location
  • Step 2 - Move to Cut option and click on it. (Notice a transparent white color background after clicking)
  • Step 4 - Your folder is now ready to be moved to anywhere in your computer system.
  • Keyboard Shortcut - Click/Select the folder/document you want to cut, then on your keyboard press Ctrl + X

    COPY

    This option is used to make a duplicate of an item (folder, document, etc) from one location in the computer system to another.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the folder/document you want to copy to another location
  • Step 2 - Move to Copy option and click on it. (Notice that there will be no transparent white color background after clicking like the cut option above)
  • Step 4 - Your folder is now ready to be copied to anywhere in your computer system.
  • Keyboard Shortcut - Click/Select on the folder/document that you want to copy, then on your keyboard press Ctrl + C

    PASTE

    This option is used to place an item (folder, document, etc) at your desired location in your computer system.

  • Step 1 - Go to the location you want to place (paste) your item.
  • Step 2 - Right Click on that location and move to Paste
  • Step 3 - Click on Paste and the item which you copied or cut will appear there.
  • Keyboard Shortcut - Go to the folder/document you want to move the item to, then on your keyboard press Ctrl + V

    CREATE SHORTCUT

    This option is used to allow you create a means of locating where a document/folder or application is, from its duplicate.

  • Step 1 - Go to the folder/document you want to create shortcut for.
  • Step 2 - Right Click on the folder/document move to Create Shortcut
  • Step 3 - Click on Create Shortcut and the shortcut for that file/document will be created.
  • ALTERNATIVE - Click on folder/document you want to create shortcut for, then on your keyboard press Ctrl + Shift and then Click, Hold and Drag the folder/document out. Your shortcut will be created.

    DELETE

    This option is used to remove a folder/document from the computer temporary. When you delete a file/document it goes to the computer recycle bin.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the folder/document you want to delete.
  • Step 2 - Go to Delete and click on it. Your folder/document will be deleted temporarily (sent to recycle bin)
  • Keyboard Shortcut - Click on the folder/document you want to delete, then on your keyboard press delete (it is usually located at the top right side of the keyboard)

    RENAME

    This option is used to change the name of a folder/document in your computer system.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the folder/document you want to rename.
  • Step 2 - Go to Rename and click on it.
  • Step 3 - Type in the new name you want to give to the folder/document. Then Press Enter on your keyboard or Click outside the folder/document for your changes to take effect.
  • ALTERNATIVE - Click on the folder/document you want to delete, then on your keyboard press f2 key (located at the first row on your keyboard at the left side). Type in the new name you want to give to the folder/document. Then Press Enter on your keyboard or Click outside the folder/document for your changes to take effect.

    VIEW PROPERTIES

    This option is used to check the properties of a folder/document which includes its file type, date of creation, attributes, located, etc.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the folder/document you want to view the properties.
  • Step 2 - Go to View Properties and click on it. The properties of that folder/document will be displayed.
  • Keyboard Shortcut - Click on the folder/document you want to its properties, then on your keyboard press Alt Enter. The properties of that folder/document will be displayed.

    SEND

    This option is used to send a folder/document to another location in the computer system.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the folder/document you want to send to another location.
  • Step 2 - Go to Send and various locations will display for you.
  • (i) Bluetooth Device - This sends the document to a Bluetooth device. (Note: that you cannot send a folder to Bluetooth only documents)
  • (ii) Compressed Zipped (folder) - This sends the folder/document to be compressed into a zip folder
  • (iii) Desktop (create shortcut) - This sends a shortcut of the selected folder/document to your computer desktop.
  • (iv) Documents - This sends the folder/document to the documents default folder in the file explorer.
  • (v) Fax Recipients - This sends the folder/document to a fax machine for printing.
  • (vi) Mail Recipients - This opens a mail application in order to send the document to an email address.
  • (vii) DVD RW Drive - This is used to send the folder/document to a disc. (You need to insert a disc for this option to work)
  • Step 3 - Click on the option you want to send the folder/document. DONE!

    OTHER OPTIONS

    There are other options when you Right Click on a folder/document, it may be different depending on the document, but the basic/default ones you will always see includes the following

  • Pin to Start -This is used to pin the folder/document to the start menu tiles (located at the right column when you click the start menu or button).
  • Give Access to - This option gives and removes sharing access to folder/document.
  • Include in Library - This when you want to add the folder/document to any of the default libraries in the computer system.
  • Restore Previous Version - For taking a folder/document back to its previous version.
  • Pin to Quick Access - It is used to pin the selected folder/document to Quick Access in the File Explorer.
