Windows 10 Settings (Accounts)

This settings area has to do with settings that includes setting up your emails, accounts and personal information. You can also set up the type of authentication you want for signing into your PC. It also includes settings for adding other users and lots more.

(i) Your Info

This is the first section in the account settings section. The first thing you will see is your display picture (if you have not set any display picture, what you will see is the default avatar image).

Below this image you will see your display name, email address and ownership right (user or administrator). The Administrator is one that has full control of the computer system, having the highest level of access to an account.
A User has limited access to the account with the permission given by the Administrator.


The next three links are:

  • Manage my Microsoft account - when you click this link, it opens your default browser to start the process of managing your Microsoft account.
  • Verify - when you click this link, it opens a dialog box for you to start the process of verifying your identity to synchronize password across other of your devices.
  • Stop sign in into all Microsoft app automatically - This link, when clicked on will make your device stop sign in into microsoft applications automatically. After clicking this link, another link will dispaly which is the Sign in with a Microsoft account instead

Lastly under the heading (Create your picture), you will find two options which you can use to add your picture. The first is using your camera, and the second is by browsing through your computer files. When you click on the Camera, it opens your PC camera for you to take a picture of yourself. And when you click on Browse for one it opens your file explorer for you to find and select picture that you can use.

(ii) Email and Account

This settings section is used to add accounts and manage existing email accounts.

Under the first heading (Accounts used by emails, calendar and contacts) you will find the option to add an account. When you click on this option, a dialog box will open for you to choose which account you intend adding.

The next heading is (Accounts used by other apps). Under this heading, you can click on the link Add a work or school account which will open a dialog box for you to add a work or school account (note that you must have internet connection for this to work, else there will be an error message in the dialog box).
If you already have existing account, you can click on it, see its options, manage or remove the account from your computer system.

Lastly to draw your attention back, remember that in almost every settings page, you will likely find the Get help and Give feedback link at the right side of the page, which you can click on to seek for help, and also give your feedback on any page settings in the windows 10 settings.

(iii) Sign-in Options

In the sign-in options page, the first heading that is here is the (Manage how you sign in to your device). Under this heading you will find different sign-in options that you can set for your device.

Some sign in options might not work for some devices that do not have their hardware capabilities.

The following sign in options includes:

  • (a) Windows Hello Face - You can click this option to use your face as security pass, when you want to sign in.
  • (b) Windows Hello Fingerprint - This option is used to set Fingerprint authentication for sign in.
  • (c) Windows Hello PIN - PIN is a personal identification number that you can set for your PC as a security pass when you want to sign in.
  • (d) Security Key - This is the combination of letter, numbers and symbols where possible which you can set as your sign in authentication.
  • (e) Password - Password is the combination of numbers and letters used for sign in authentication.
  • (d) Picture Password - This sign in option makes use of pictures that you have provided for it.

    The next heading is the (Require sign-in) Under this heading, you can choose when the windows will require you to sign in again after being away. There are two options to select from when you click on the select button, either to require sign-in When PC wakes up from sleep or Never.

    Under the next heading (Dynamic Lock) you can click on the checkbox to enable windows automatically lock your PC when you are away.
    You can also see two links which are the Bluetooth and other devices which when clicked on takes you to Bluetooth and other devices settings page under the devices setting section in windows 10 settings.
    The second link Learn more when clicked on opens your default browser, opening a webpage online where you can learn more about this current settings in windows 10.

    Under the heading (Restart Apps) you can click on the switch button below which automatically save restartable apps when you sign out and restart them later after signing in.

    The last heading is the Privacy. Under this heading are two options for you to switch ON/OFF. The first is to show account details such as email address on sign in screen. And the second is to use your sign-in information to automatically finish setting your device after an update or a restart.

    At the right hand side of this page, under the related settings, you will find the lock screen link, when you click on this, it will take you to the lock screen settings page.

    TIPS:

    Windows OS in the setting sections, always put setting links that are related to each other so you can be able to switch from one to another at ease, when ever you want.


    (iv) Access Work or School

    This setting area or page is used to get access to resources such as emails, app and network

    On this page, there is only one option which is used to connect your work or school account. Once you connect, it means that your work or school accounts will be able to control things on this your device.
    To connect, your can click on the connect option and follow the process and instructions that appear afterwards.

    At the right side of this page, under the related settings heading, there are few links which you can explore. The first link there is the Add or Remove a provisioning package - When you click this link, it takes you to another page, where you can add or remove a provisioning package. A provisioning package is a container for the collection of configuration settings. This can help to quickly and efficiently configure a device without installing a new image.

    The next link there is Export your management log files. You can click on this option to begin exporting your log files.

    Log Files are computer generated information about usage patterns, various activities and operations within the operating system.

    After the export log files link, the next link is the Set up an account for taking tests. When you click on this link, it takes you to the page where you can be able to set up your account for taking test. In this page, you will have to choose an account, if you are signed into multiple accounts. After this you will enter the your testing web address below. You can also decide to enable printing, allow screen monitoring and allow text suggestions.

    The next link is the Enroll only in device management. When you click on this link, it brings out a dialog page where you can input the necessary details to enrol only in device management.

    Lastly in this page, are the Get help and Give Feedback links which I believe you are already familiar with.


    (v) Family and other Users

    This page setting is mainly used to add family and other users' account to the computer system.
    The first heading here is (Your Family). Under this heading, you can click on the Add a family member option to add your family member account, so that every family member can be able to log into their own account
    Under this option is a link learn more, when you click on this link it opens your default browser to show you more on that setting.

    The next heading here is the (Other users). Under this heading you can use the option Add someone else to this PC to add other people, so that they can be able to log into their own accounts.

    The next and last heading is (Set up a Kiosk). Under this heading you can begin the process of setting up a Kiosk by clicking the option below it - Assigned Access.

    (vi) Sync your settings

    This is the last section in this account settings in windows 10 settings. This page contains options which is used to switch on your synchronization settings. You can also switch them ON/OFF individually, under the (Individual sync settings).
