Windows 10 Environment

Windows 10 is pretty cool compare to its other previous versions: Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. Some of the basic things found in Windows 10 environs includes the following.

Start Button

The start button is the first button you will always likely click all the time. It looks like the Windows OS logo. It can also be called the Start Menu.

The Start button when clicked, displays two columns: the left column panel which contains recently added applications with all other older applications in your computer system.

It also contains the power button, settings, documents, pictures and user account.

While the right column panel contains tiles of applications that is resizable or can be adjusted.

Search Input

The search input is located at the left corner of the task bar immediately after the start menu icon (windows icon image). The search input is used to find applications, documents, etc that is in the computer system. As soon as you start typing, suggestions are being listed out for you.

The area above the search input into grouped into one row and two columns: The row (located at the top) contains ALL, APPS, DOCUMENTS, SETTINGS, EMAIL, WEB and MORE. These are specific search locations that can narrow down your search to give results from those areas only. For examples, if you click on the APPS, your search will be narrowed down to only APPS on your computer system, same goes for other options. The ALL option means you are searching from all locations in your computer system.

The LEFT COLUMN contains your search results from different locations (if you are searching your entire computer by selecting the ALL from the top row) or from that specific location you selected.

The RIGHT COLUMN shows you the icon (image) of the file, document or application you searched for, together with other options beneath it.

Cortana

This is Microsoft’s voice-controlled digital assistant located in the taskbar menu immediately after the search input. Cortana makes it easy for users to interact with their computers without using their hands. Before using Cortana you will have to sign up first.

Task View

The Task View is also located in the taskbar menu. Its icon looks like a tractor-chain. When clicked on, it displays a box with a plus sign inside the box and ontop of it - New Desktop along side with your current desktops. Clicking on the New Desktop creates a new Desktop workspace. If you have already created different desktop workspaces you can use the task view to switch from one desktop workspace to another.

People usually pin their frequently used apps in the taskbar for easy access.

The battery icon is also located below the right corner of the desktop. On click: It displays the battery percentage, power mode, and also a link to battery full settings.

Show/Hide Icon on Taskbar

This is found at the bottom right side of the desktop which is used to display hidden icons on the taskbar menu.

Meeting

This is taskbar menu application that can be used to create online meetings. Meetings can contain more than 20persons, provided they have the meeting link.

Device Update

This is a desktop-like icon (with an orange dot) that comes up when the system recently downloaded new updates that needs you to restart the system for the updates to be installed

Network Connection

The network icon looks like a globe. It is located below the desktop in the taskbar menu at the right-hand side next to the volume/speaker icon. On Click: It shows all the Wireless Signals nearby. The link for setting the Network and Internet is also displayed. Beneath the network and internet settings, you also have options for turning ON/OFF Wi-fi, Airplane Mode and Mobile Hotspot.

This icon is located close the date and time. The icon looks like a speaker. On Click: It displays dialog box with range option adjusting the volume of the system.

The date and time icon is also located below the desktop at the taskbar menu right hand side beside the notification area icon. On Click: It displays three rows. The first top row displays the time, the second row displays the calendar and the last row shows your set alarm events

The notification area icon is located below the desktop at the taskbar menu, at the right corner end. On Click: It displays two rows. The first row shows all notifications gotten from applications in the system. The second row contains Location, Battery Saver, Night, Mobile Hotspot, Airplane, All Settings, Network, Connect, Project, VPN, Focus Assit, Screen Snip tiles etc. On clicking on any of these tiles opens their individual dialog box. You can also perform some customization by adding/deleting tiles by right clicking. There is also an option for collapsing and clearing all notification by either clicking on the collapse or clear notification.
