Animations

In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to animate your objects in powerpoint with ease. Just follow the simple steps below

DEFINITION:

Animation is a special motion visual effect that can be applied to any single object (shape, text, images, etc) on a slide.

  • USING SIMPLE ANIMATIONS
  • Step 1 - Select the object or text that you want to animate

  • Step 2 - Go the menu tab and click on the Animations tab. The animations ribbon displayed contains 4 (four) groups which are the Preview, Animation, Advance and Timing.

  • Step 3 - In the Animation group, you can click on any of the animations (Appear, Fade, Fly In, Float In, Split or Wipe) and it will be applied to the selected object.

  • MORE ANIMATIONS
  • Step 1 - To use other animations that comes with Powerpoint, simply click on the small button at the bottom right corner of the Animation group as shown in the image below.

  • Step 1 (Alternative) - In the Animation tab, go to the Advance Animation group and click on Add Animation

  • Step 2 - More animations will be displayed which are categorized into: None, Entrance, Emphasis, Exit, Motion Paths.

  • Step 3 - Below these categories that are displayed, you can also find other options that opens more animations in those individual categories: More Entrance, More Emphasis, More Exit, More Motion Paths

  • Step 4 - Each of these options above, which clicked takes you to their individual dialog box that also contains more animations categorized in groups.
  • The Change Entrance Effect, Change Emphasis and Change Exit have the same categories: Basic, Subtle, Moderate and Exciting but different animations in them.

  • The Change Motion Path is categorized into: Basic, Linear Curves and Special

TIP:

You will defintely be making use of animations most of the times for your presentation to be visually apealing and awesome, so don't rush take some time and try out these numerous animations. Play around with them a bit before moving forward on this tutorial.

  • EFFECT OPTIONS - The effect option is used to control the direction from which the animations should start from and end.
    Go to the Animation group and click on Effect Options. A dropdown list of options will be displayed in accordance to the animation chosen. Select your desired option.

NOTE:

The number of effect options depends on the animation style that is selected or chosen.

  • ANIMATION PANE
  • Step 1 - Click on the Animation tab and go to the Advance Animation group and click on Animation Pane. This animation pane will be displayed at the right side of your PowerPoint windows.

  • Step 2 - Here in the animation pane; Play From button is used to play all the animations in the animation pane. The Up and Down caret buttons are used to order the animation objects (Move objects upwards or downwards)

  • Step 3 - To format animation, simply click on the Caret button beside the animation. This will display a dropdown list of options.

  • The first three (3) options is used to set when the animation will start (Start On Click, Start With Previous, Start After Previous).

  • The Effect and Timing options when clicked, opens a dialog box for that particular effect. In this dialog box there are usually three (3) sections, where you can edit and set the Effects properties (Settings: direction, Enhancement: Sounds, After animation effect and Text animation), Timing properties (Start, Delay, Duration, Repeat, Rewind and Triggers) and Text Animation properties.

  • Hide/Show Advance Timeline - This option is used to hide/show advance timeline usually seen below the animation pane.

  • Remove - This option is used to remove animation from the object.

  • ANIMATION TIMING
  • Step 1 - Click on the Animation tab and go to the Timing group.

  • Step 2 - Here, you can set when the animation will start, how much time it will be given and how long it will take before starting, by using the Start, Duration and Delay options respectively.

  • Step 3 - Lastly, under the Recorder Animation, you can order your animation the way you want. Setting which one to start first or last.

NOTE:

In the Preview group which has only one option Preview button. When you click on the top part, the animation plays. Also, when you click on the bottom part, a dropdown of two options appears: Preview and Auto Preview.
