PowerPoint - Position Objects

Position Objects

Positioning your objects for proper presentation is just as important as ordering them rightly. In this tutorial I will be showing you how you can position your objects, which comprises of two major categories: Alignment and Rotation

  • ALIGN OBJECTS
  • Step 1 - First insert some objects into your slide (it can be shapes or pictures).
  • align-objects
  • Step 2 - Select the object(s) you want to position by alignment. Depending on the object (Picture, Shape, Video etc) in the menu tab, click on either Shape Format, Video Format, Format, Picture Format tab. Then go to the Arrange group; click on Align. From the dropdown list displayed, click on the alignment option of your choice.

  • Step 3 - Your selected object(s) is now successfully aligned depending on the alignment option you clicked. Mine: Align Middle

S/N ALIGNMENT OPTIONS
1.

Align Left

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the left margin of the slide

2.

Align Center

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the center of the slide horizontally

3.

Align Right

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the right margin of the slide

4.

Align Top

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the top margin of the slide

5.

Align Top

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the top margin of the slide

6.

Align Middle

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the center of the slide vertically and horizontally.

7.

Align Bottom

This command is used to align the selected object(s) to the bottom margin of the slide.

8.

Distribute Horizontally

This command is used to align and give equal amount of space between multiple selected objects from left to right.

9.

Distribute Vertically

This command is used to align and give equal amount of space between multiple selected objects from top to bottom.

10.

Distribute Vertically

This command is used to align and give equal amount of space between multiple selected objects from top to bottom.

11.

Align To Slide

This option when selected, is used to when you want your slide's top, bottom, left and right sides to be the anchor when aligning your objects

12.

Align Selected Objects

This option when selected, is used to when you want only the selected objects to be the anchor when aligning your objects

TIP:

Using an example: The Difference between Align To Slide and Align Selected Objects. When aligning two objects to the top:
If the Align Slides is selected, the two objects will be aligned to the top margin of the slide.
But if the Align Selected Objects is selected, the object lower object move to meet with the topmost object that is selected.

  • ROTATE OBJECTS
  • Step 1 - First insert an object into your slide (it can be shapes or pictures).

  • Step 2 - Select the object(s) you want to position by rotation. Depending on the object (Picture, Shape, Video etc) in the menu tab, click on either Shape Format, Video Format, Format, Picture Format tab. Then go to the Arrange group; click on Rotate. From the dropdown list displayed, click on the rotation option of your choice.

S/N ROTATION OPTIONS
1.

Rotate Right 90 Degrees

This command is used to rotate the selected object(s) in a clockwise direction by 90 degrees about its fixed point

2.

Rotate Left 90 Degrees

This command is used to rotate the selected object(s) in a anti-clockwise direction by 90 degrees about its fixed point

3.

Flip Vertical

This command is used to turn the selected object upside down while maintaining its left and right orientations.

4.

Flip Horizontal

This command is used to swap the selected object left and right sides. Its gives the object its mirrored version.

5.

More Rotation Options

This command is used to open the Picture pane at the right side of your PowerPoint windows, where you can see option to manually input the rotation degrees that you want. It also contains other options that can be used to edit the object.
