Sections

You can customize the slide into sections to make it look more organized. In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to create sections, rename sections, remove sections and also arrange sections in the order that you want.

  • CREATING SECTION
  • Step 1 - Select the slides that you want to group into a section from the slide tab.

  • Step 2 - Right Click on the selected slides from the slide tab. From the dropdown list of options displayed, click on Add Section.

  • Step 3 - The section will be created with a default name (Untitled Section). The Rename dialog box will also be displayed.

    NOTE:

    The other slides you didn't select will be group in a default section.

  • Step 4 - In the rename dialog box you can change the name of the section if you want by typing inside the Section name input field. Click on the Rename button there after.

  • (ALTERNATIVE 1)
  • Step 1 - An alternative method of creating section in PowerPoint is by Right Clicking at the point from which you want your section to be created. From the options displayed click on Add Section. Then follow the steps 3, 4 and 5 from the first method above.

  • Step 1 - A second alternative is by clicking on the slide where you want you section to start from. Then go to the Home tab, inside the Slides group click on the option Section. From the dropdown list displayed, click on Add Section. Then follow the steps 3, 4 and 5 from the first method above.

  • RENAMING SECTION
  • Step 1 - Right Click on the section name or title that you want to rename. From the dropdown list of options click on the Rename Section

  • Step 2 - The Rename Section dialog box will be displayed. Here you can rename the section by editing the Section name input field. Then click the Rename button.

  • Step 3 - Section will be renamed successfully.

  • Step 1 - A second alternative is by clicking on the section name or title. Then go to the Home tab, inside the Slides group click on the option Section. From the dropdown list displayed, click on Rename Section. Then follow the steps 2 and 3 from the first method above.

TIP:

In renaming a particular section, you can still click on the first slide that starts section, then follow the alternative step below to rename the section.

  • REMOVING SECTION
  • Step 1 - Right Click on the section name or title that you want to remove. From the dropdown list of options click on the Remove Section

  • Step 2 - Section will be successfully removed and its slides will be moved to the next section group. (Here the slides have been moved to the Default Section group)

  • Step 1 - An alternative method is by clicking on the section name or title. Then go to the Home tab, inside the Slides group click on the option Section. From the dropdown list displayed, click on Remove Section. Section will be successfully removed.

  • REMOVING MULTIPLE SECTIONS AT ONCE
  • Step 1 - Right Click on one of the section names. From the dropdown list of options click on the Remove All Sections

  • Step 2 - All sections will be successfully removed.

  • Step 1 - An alternative method is by clicking on the section name or title. Then go to the Home tab, inside the Slides group click on the option Section. From the dropdown list displayed, click on Remove All Sections. Section will be successfully removed.

NOTE:

Removing section(s) does not remove the slides in it.

  • REMOVING SECTION AND SLIDES
  • There is also an option to remove the section and all the slides in it. You can do this by following the steps below.

  • Step 1 - Right Click on the section name. From the dropdown list of options click on the Remove All Section & Slides

  • Step 2 - The section and its slides will be successfully removed.

NOTE:

You can not remove multiple sections and their slides at once. You would have to do it one by one. OR Select all the slides from the slide tab, press DELETE KEY on your keyboard to remove the slides, then Right Click on one of the section name and from the dropdown list displayed, click on Remove All Sections

  • ARRANGING SECTIONS
  • Step 1 - Right Click on the section name. From the dropdown list of options, you can use the options Move Section Down or Move Section Up to arrange your sections in the order you want.

  • Step 3 - In case you have multiple sections with large number of slides, you can click on the small Triangle Icon beside the name of the section to toggle collapse/expand its slides.

  • Step 4 - To collapse/expand all sections at once. Right click on the section name or title. From the dropdown list of options displayed, click on either Collapse All or Expand All to display the sections with its slides or only display the section titles only.

  • ALTERNATIVE - An alternative method is by clicking on the section name or title. Then go to the Home tab, inside the Slides group click on the option Section. From the dropdown list displayed, click on either Collapse All or Expand All to display the sections with its slides or only display the section titles only.
