How To Set AutoCorrect Options

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to set your own autocorrect options so that whenever you type that incorrect word or sentence in your document, Ms-word will automatically correct it.

  • SETTING AUTOCORRECT
  • Step 1 - Click on the File tab (This will take you to the home page of Ms-word). In the first column at your left, click on the Options.

  • Step 2 - The Word Options dialog box will be displayed. Inside the dialog box, click on the Proofing option, from the left column.

  • Step 3 - Inside the proofing, click on the AutoCorrect Options button. (This will open the Autocorrect options dialog box)

  • Step 4 - Inside the autocorrect dialog box, click on the AutoCorrect tab.

  • Step 5 - Inside the Autocorrect option, make sure you enable all the options. After this, you can also click the Exceptions which will bring out a small dialog box for you to make any exception you might have if any.

    • Show AutoCorrect Options Button - This option when enabled, shows a blue button menu below the word that was automatically corrected. This button menu when clicked on, displays options to: Change the corrected word back to previous word, Stop automatically correcting that word and Control autocorrect options.
    • Correct TWo INitial CApitals - This option when enabled, changes the second letter in a pair of capital letters to lowercase.
    • Capitalize first letter of sentences - This option when enabled, capitalize the first letter when you reach each of that sentence.
    • Capitalize first letter of table cells - This option when enabled, capitalize the first letter of a word in the table cells.
    • Correct accidental usage of cAPS LOCK key - This option when enabled, corrects errors that occur with you cap lock key is on and then you turn it off again.
    • Replace text as you type - This option when enabled, automatically replaces the correct word with the incorrect word as you type.
    • Automatically use suggestions from the spelling checker - This option when enabled, automatically brings out suggestions for your spelling checker.

  • For example, I am choosing not to correct the word OBINTUSACADEMY. Whenever I type obintusacademy, Ms-word will not underline it as incorrect word and it won't be replace by another word. There are other exceptions, you can try them out only when it is absolutely necessary. Then click on the Okay to save and close the dialog box.

  • Step 6 - From the AutoCorrect dialog box, there are pre-defined word already which you can use by simply clicking on them. You can also store your own corrections and add it. Just type in the incorrect word in the Replace input field and type in the correct word in the With input field, then click on the Add button.
    In my own case, I am replacing the word Tutoral with Tutorial. So when ever I mistakenly type Tutoral, ms-word will automatically correct it to Tutorial.

  • Step 7 - After you finish setting the autocorrect options, click the Okay button to save and close the dialog box. Do it for the next dialog box too.
