Page Margins

DEFINITION:

Margin is the area (space) between the main content of the page and the edges of the page.

Page margin is necessary in order for the contents of your document to be fully shown when it is spiral banded or pinned together. Use any of the method below to set the page margin of your document.

  • METHOD 1
  • Step 1 - Go to the document you want to set page margin for. Click on the Layout tab, go the Page Setup group and click on the Page Margin option. (This will display a dropdown list of default margins to select from).

  • Step 2 - From the dropdown list, click on any of the default margin option to apply it to your document.

  • CUSTOM MARGIN
  • To set your personalized margin, you can set your own custom margin

  • Step 1 - Click on the Custom Margin option from the dropdown list. (This will display page setup dialog box)

  • Step 2 - From the dialog box, you can set margins for individual positions (top, bottom, left, right, gutter, gutter position), set other options and preview it. Then click on Okay button to apply it to the document.

  • Step 3 - DONE!

NOTE:

The page setup dialog box can also be used to set up the page orientation (that is how a document is laid: portrait or landscape)

You can also use this dialog box to setup your default margin by clicking on the Set as default button. So that anytime you open a new document, ms-word will automatically use the margin for your new document page.

  • METHOD 2
  • Step 1 - Go to the document you want to set page margin for. Move your mouse to the rulers. Place your pointer at the right or left margin icon (your mouse pointer will change to double-side arrow icon).

  • Step 2 - Hold down the click button, and move to either left or right to increase or decrease the margin size. Then release the click button.

  • Step 3 - Your margin will be successfully set for that page.
