Shades and Borders

  • SHADES
  • The shade option in Ms-word is used to change the color of the selected text background.

  • Step 1 - Select the portion of text you want to change the background color.

  • Step 2 - In your Home tab, go to the Paragraph group and click on the Shading dropdown arrow-head button.
    From the dropdown list, click on the color you want to use for the text background and it will be applied.

    To remove the background color, click on the No Color option. To see more colors to select from, click on the More Colors option, this will display a color dialog box for you to select color from.

  • BORDERS
  • Borders in Ms-word are lines around a particular section of text or page in a document. Borders can be used in plain texts, tables and pages. To apply borders, you can follow the simple steps below.

  • APPLYING BORDERS TO TEXT
  • Step 1 - Select the paragraph or portion of text that you want to apply borders to, or place your text cursor indicator at the beginning of the paragraph you want to apply borders to.

  • Step 2 - In your Home tab, go to the Paragraph group and click on the Borders dropdown arrow-head button.
    From the dropdown list, select the position of where you want you border to be placed and click on it. The border will be applied.

    To add an horizontal line, click on the Horizontal Line option from the dropdown list, and a line will be applied across your document horizontally.

    To open more options on borders, you can click on the Borders and Shading options.
    This will display a dialog box, where you can explore more options that can be used to set border style, color and width.

    NOTE:

    From this dialog box, you can also set background color for your text by clicking on the Shading tab.

  • APPLYING BORDERS TO A PAGE
  • Step 1 - Go to the page you want to apply borders.

  • Step 2 - In your Home tab, go to the Paragraph group and click on the Borders dropdown arrow-head button.
    From the dropdown list, click on Borders and Shading (A dialog box will display)

  • Step 3 - From the dialog box, click on the Page Border Tab.
    Choose your border style, width, color or art that you want to use. After selecting your preferred choice, click the Okay button.

  • Step 4 - Your page border will be successfully applied.
