DEFINITION:

Sorting is the process of arranging items in an ordered manner using a particular sequence or format.

MS-Word provides you with the feature which you can use to sort text in the order that you want. To do this, you can follow the simple steps below.

  • Step 1 - Select the text or list of text that you want to sort.

  • Step 2 - In your Home tab, go to the Paragraph group and click on the Sort button.
    A dialog box will be display for you to set your sort options.

    The two major sorting options is: Ascending and Descending order. After choosing this any option you want, you set your sorting type to be either: text, number or dates.
    If you have a large document, you can also choose to specify sort by headings, field or paragraph.

    At the button of this dialog box, when you click on the Options button, it will take you to sort options dialog box where you can also explore other sorting options.

  • Step 3 - After you have finished setting your sort options, click the Okay button for your sorting to be applied.
