How To Type Equations

Typing mathematical equations is easy. You can actually do this in few steps.

  • HOW TO TYPE EQUATIONS
  • Step 1 - Open a blank document, click on the Insert tab, go to the symbols group and click on the Equation dropdown icon button.

  • Step 2 - If you click on the equation dropdown icon button, a dropdown list of options will be displayed. You can click on any built in Formulas to automatically insert it. You can also click on the More Equations from Office.com to get more equations from Office.com

  • Step 3 - If you click directly on the equation button, this will open the equation tab. You can now use the equation ribbon. Equation text box will be also be displayed.

  • Step 4 - Now for example, to insert dy/dx equation, go the Structures group and click on the Fraction button, this will display list of two categories (Fraction and Common Fraction). Click on the dy/dx option to insert the equation.
    The equation will be inserted successfully.

    NOTE:

    You can insert other equations by using similar method above. Also there is method you can use to type in equation inside the document.

  • Step 5 - In the Equation tab, go to the Tools group (which is the first group in the equation ribbon). Click the Ink Equation button.

  • Step 6 - A math input control dialog box will be displayed.

  • Step 7 - To type your equation, use the mouse pointer to draw it inside the second row of the dialog box. Ms-word will help you control the writing by displaying the equation you have drawn in the first row in a proper format.
    The third row contains button options for writing, erasing, selecting and correcting and to clear. After you are done writing the equation, click on the Insert button.
