Inserting Special Symbols

Special symbols are characters that are not usually seen in your keyboard which are used to represent currency, brands, figures, object etc. There are thousands of specials symbols being created everyday, so you might not see all symbols in the world in Ms-word.

  • STEPS ON HOW TO INSERT SPECIAL SYMBOLS
  • Step 1 - Click on the Insert tab.
    Go to the Symbols group and click on the Symbols command option. (This will open a dropdown box of symbols)

  • Step 2 - If the symbol you want is displayed in the dropdown box, click on the symbol and it will be inserted into your document.
    If the symbol you want is not displayed in the dropdown box, then proceed to Step 3.

  • Step 3 - Click on the More Symbols option. (This will display the symbol dialog box)

  • Step 4 - From the dialog box, click on the symbol you want to insert, and click on the insert to insert it inside your document.

NOTE:

In your symbols dialog box, you can do the following: Select font, change the subset and also create keyboard shortcut for a particular symbol or symbols using the Shortcut Key button at the bottom of the dialog box.
The AutoCorrect button is also available for creating your own autocorrect in ms-word word.


  • STEPS TO CREATE SPECIAL SYMBOLS SHORTCUT
  • Step 1 - Click on the Insert tab.
    Go to the Symbols group and click on the Symbols command option. (This will open a dropdown box of symbols)

  • Step 2 - In the dropdown box, click on More Symbols (This will open the symbols dialog box)

  • Step 3 - In the symbols dialog box, at the bottom click on the Shortcut Key button. (This will open the customize keyboard dialog box)

  • Step 4 - In the customize keyboard dialog box, go to the second column, under the heading Specific Keyboard Sequence.
    Click on inside the input field below Press New Shortcut Keyboard heading and press the shortcut you want to use for those symbols. (For example: If your press Ctrl + F, it will be displayed in the input field)

  • Step 5 - Click the Assign button at bottom of the dialog box to save your shortcut.

  • TO REMOVE SPECIAL SYMBOLS SHORTCUT
  • Step - Click on the shortcut inside the input field below the heading Current Keys.
    Then click on the Remove button at the bottom of the dialog box. Your shortcut will be removed successfully!

    NOTE:

    If you assign a shortcut that is already been used by another command, you won't be able to used that shortcut for the previous one.
    For example: Ctrl + A is normally used to selected an entire document, if you assign it to a symbol, when you press Ctrl + A, the entire document will not be selected but your symbol will be displayed.

  • TO RESET SPECIAL SYMBOLS SHORTCUT
  • Step - Click on the shortcut inside the input field below the heading Current Keys.
    Then click on the Reset All button at the bottom of the dialog box. This will reset all shortcuts successfully!
tips
TIP:

Anytime you want to assign a shortcut to a symbol, below the input field Current Keys, if the shortcut has already been assigned ms-word will display it there.
