Copy, Paste and Cut

COPY

Copying is the making of a duplicate of the selected text.

  • Step 1 - Select the portion of the text that you want to copy using any selection method in the previous tutorials.

    THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO COPY, CHOOSE ANY OF THE STEP 2 OPTIONS YOU PREFER.
  • Step 2 - Right click on the selected text, and click on the Copy option from the menu options.

  • Step 2 (Using Group command) - Click on the Home tab.
    In the Clipboard group, click on the Copy command.

  • Step 2 (Keyboard Shortcut) - Press Ctrl + C on your keyboard.

PASTE

Paste is placing a copied or cut text in another position in your document area.

  • Step 1 - Move your text cursor indicator to the position in your document that you want to paste your copied or cut text.

    THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO PASTE, CHOOSE ANY OF THE STEP 2 OPTIONS YOU PREFER.
  • Step 2 - Right click on this position, and click on the any of the Paste Options from the menu options displayed

    NOTE:

    There are four paste options:
    Keep Source Formatting - This will paste the copied or cut text in the format it was copied.
    Merge Formatting - This options removes the original formatting of the copied or cut text and merge it with the current document formatting that you are pasting it on.
    Picture - This will paste the copied or cut text as a picture.
    Keep Text Only - This removes all formatting from the copied or cut text and paste only the raw text.

  • Step 2 (Using Group command) - Click on the Home tab.
    In the Clipboard group, click on the Paste command and click on any of the paste options to paste your copied or cut text.

    TIP:

    You can paste you copied text in a special way by clicking on the Paste Special option. (This will open a dialog box where you can choose how you want to paste you copied or cut text).

    You can also set a particular paste option as your default paste option, so that you won't have to be selecting paste whenever ever you want to paste. You can do this by click on the Set Default Paste option (This will open the word options dialog page where you can perform this operation)

  • Step 2 (Keyboard Shortcut) - Press Ctrl + V on your keyboard.
  • Step 3 - Text successfully pasted!

CUT

Cut is the removing the selected text from its original position in the document area.

  • Step 1 - Select the portion of the text that you want to cut using any selection method in the previous tutorials.

  • Step 2 - Right click on the selected text, and click on the Cut option from the menu options.
