Checking Spellings

Checking spellings in excel has to do with looking out for wrongly spelt word or words in your worksheet and correcting them. In Ms-word when you mistakenly spell a word wrongly, you will see red line. But in Excel, this is different because it doesn't show you anything to know that the word is wrongly spelt or grammatically incorrect.

  • CHECKING SPELLINGS
  • Step 1 - Click on the Review tab.
    Go to the Proofing group and click on the Spellings command option. (This will open the spellings dialog box where you will see all the wrongly spelt or grammar error words in your excel worksheet)

  • Step 2 - From the dialog box displayed, excel while start from the beginning of the worksheet to check for spelling errors one after the another. The wrongly spelt word will be under the heading Not in Dictionary, while the suggested rightly spelt words is under the heading Suggestions.

    From the dialog box, these are the button and what they are used for.

    • Ignore Once - This will ignore the spelling error and move to the next spelling error in the worksheet.
    • Ignore All - This will ignore the all the spelling errors in the worksheet
    • Add to Dictionary - This button is used to add the word to the excel dictionary.
    • Change - This button is used to change the selected error to the suggested word in the suggestion list
    • Change All - This button is used to change the selected error and all the places that same error occurred in the worksheet, to the suggested word in the suggestion list
    • AutoCorrect - This button is used to add the word or selected suggestions to auto correct that error any time you mistakenly type that same error.
    • Undo Last - This button is used to reverse last change made.
    • Option - This button is used to open the Proofing section inside the Excel Word Options.
    • Close - This button is used to close the dialog box.
  • Step 3 - After you are done with checking and correcting the spellings in your excel worksheet, click the Close button And a small dialog box will display telling you that the spell check is completed and you are good to go. Click Ok.
