How To Add and Remove Watermark

Watermark is that faint text or image that behind the main content of a page or worksheet.

In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to add and remove different forms of watermark in your excel worksheet. Just follow the steps below to learn this in few minutes.

  • ADDING WATERMARK
  • Step 1 - You can open any worksheet document in your computer system of your choice to follow up for this tutorial. In my own case I have open an excel worksheet that contains sales records of gadgets. You can also copy mine if you like.

  • Step 2 - Click on the Insert tab and go to the text option at the far right of the insert ribbon. Click on the text option to open the Text group. In the text group, click on Header & Footer.

  • Step 3 - The header and footer section will be displayed as shown in the image below. Also notice that the Header & Footer tab is now on the menu tab and has also been selected that its ribbon is visible with its various grouped commands.

  • Step 4 - In the Header & Footer tab, inside the Header & Footer Elements click on the Picture option.

    We want to use a picture as the watermark for the worksheet.

  • Step 5 - Excel will open the Insert Picture file explorer window for you to browse your computer file and select the picture you want to use. Select the picture and then click the Insert button as shown in the image below.

  • Step 6 - Now, the picture code &[Picture] will be inserted into the header of the worksheet. Now simply click outside the header and see what happens.

  • Step 7 - The picture is now visible and its behind the content of the worksheet as shown in the image below.

    Now if you notice, the picture we inserted to use for our watermark didn't cover the full worksheet area, so what do we do?

  • FORMATTING WATERMARK
  • Step 1 - First click on the header (the picture code - &[Picture] will be visible again). In the Header & Footer tab go the Header & Footer Elements and click on the option Format Picture

  • Step 2 - The Format Picture dialog box will be displayed. In this dialog box there are three tabs: Size, Picture and Alt Text. Each tabs containing their own individual section of different formatting options to use.
    Now what you have is simply resize the picture using the options found in the Size tab section and also make the picture fainted using the options in the Picture tab section.

  • Step 3 - After formatting, your worksheet watermark should look like mine in the image below. Well resized to fit the entire worksheet and picture opacity reduced to make content more distinctive and visible.

  • Step 4 - Simply click outside the header for a clear view without the picture code (&[Picture]) interference. ALL DONE!

Now we have known how to add watermark to a worksheet, now how do we remove it, when maybe we do not need them anymore. It is very simple, just follow the few steps below.

  • REMOVING WATERMARK
  • Step 1 - Simply click on header section of the worksheet and delete the text - &[Picture].

  • Step 2 - After deleting the text, click outside the header section and the watermark will be removed.

  • Step 3 - Watermark successfully removed from the worksheet.

We have seen how to add and remove watermark above. Now what if we want to use a text for our watermark in an excel worksheet how do we go about it? In Ms-word its very simple to do, but in excel we will have use a simple technique for this.

  • TEXT WATERMARK
  • Step 1 - Click the header of the watermark worksheet that you want to change to text and edit the text.

  • Step 2 - Now, I have type in the text WATERMARK as the text I want to use for the watermark of the worksheet, you can type in a different text of your choice or any text you prefer.

  • Step 3 - Now press the Enter key on your keyboard multiple times to move the text to the center of the worksheet as shown in the image below.

  • Step 4 - Next just click outside the header and you will have a fine watermark text behind the contents of your worksheet as shown in the image below.

  • Step 5 - Remember you can always change the text color or font if you like. ALL DONE!

TIP:

There are other ways to add a text watermark such as using WordArt or an Add-on in excel. You can simply learn these on your own.
