How To Create Graphs

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to create graphs in excel using a simple x and y data range of values.

  • CREATING A GRAPH
  • Step 1 - Open your excel worksheet and create similar data just as the one in the image below.

  • Step 2 - Next click on the Insert tab and go to the Chart group. Here you will see different options.

  • Step 3 - From the group, click on the dropdown arrow button of the Scatter X and Y or Bubble. This will display list of different type of graphs, click on your preferred choice.

  • Step 4 - A graph will be inserted using the x and y data range values on your excel worksheet.

    NOTE:

    You do not need to select the range of data, simply make sure that one of the cells inside the x and y range of data you want to use for the plotting the grap is selected.

  • Step 5 - You can click on the Chart Design tab which brings out its ribbons with group of commands that you can use to change the styling of your graph.

  • Step 6 - Beside the graph, click on the plus icon to display the chart elements. You can add/remove any chart element by marking/unmarking the checkbox beside them.

  • Step 7 - In the Chart Design tab you can also to the Chart Layout group and click on the Change Colors option. This will display grouped list of colors for you to use as shown in the image below.

  • Step 8 - In the Chart Design tab you can also to the Chart Layout group and click on the Quick Layout option. This will display grouped list of layout options available for you to us as shown in the image below.

  • Step 9 - In the Chart Design tab you can also to the Chart Layout group and click on the Add Chart Element option. This will display list of elements. If your hover over the elements, a sub-list will be displayed also for you to select the one you prefer to add options

    There are a lot of things you can customize in your chart which also includes changing chart type, switching columns and rows, moving chart etc. Try other ones by yourself and see how they work
