How To Duplicate Rows and Columns

Duplicating rows and columns can be easy to do when you know how to do it rightly. I will be showing you the steps on how to duplicate rows and columns in excel. Just follow the steps below and you will learn how to do it in less than 5mins.

  • DUPLICATING ROWS
  • Step 1 - We are going to be using the following headers in the image below. Open your excel worksheet and type the same thing to follow up with the tutorial.

  • Step 2 - Fill the next row, below the headers (Name, Animal, Place, Things, Food) you can fill in some data as shown in the image below.

  • Step 3 - To duplicate the second row, select the row of data and right click on it. From the list of options displayed, click on Copy.

  • Step 4 - Data will be successfully copied. Notice the matching ants around the data to show that it is copied.

  • Step 5 - Now Right Click on the location where you want to paste the copied data. From the list of options displayed, under the Paste Options heading, you can choose any of the paste options you prefer.

  • Step 6 - After clicking on your preferred paste option, the row of that same data will be pasted as shown in the image below.

    NOTE:

    Even after pasting a copied data, you can still paste it again if the copied data still have the matching ants around it which indicates that the data is still actively copied and still available for pasting.

  • Step 7 - Now, simply press Ctrl + V on your keyboard OR Right Click on the third row and select any paste options under the paste options heading to paste the copied row of data again.

  • Step 8 - You can also paste it again as multiple times as you want, as long as the matching ants is still around the copied data it will always paste the same data.

  • Step 9 - After you are done, simply double click on any cell on the data and the matching ants from the copied data will be removed as shown in the image below.

  • DUPLICATING ROWS (ALTERNATIVE)
  • Step 1 - Select the row of data you want to duplicate and simply place your mouse pointer at the bottom right edge and your mouse pointer will change to a plus sign.

  • Step 1 - Once your mouse pointer changes to a plus sign, click and drag down according to the number of duplicate rows you want as shown in the image below

  • Step 3 - The duplicates will be fill in the other rows successfully as shown in the image below.

  • DUPLICATING COLUMNS
  • Step 1 - We are going to be using the data in the image below. Open your excel worksheet and type the same thing to follow up with the tutorial.

  • Step 2 - To duplicate the row under the header names, select the column of data.

  • Step 3 - Right click on the data to display list of options. From the list of options displayed, click on Copy.

  • Step 4 - Data will be successfully copied. Notice the matching ants around the data to show that it is copied.

  • Step 5 - Now Right Click on the location where you want to paste the copied data. From the list of options displayed, under the Paste Options heading, you can choose any of the paste options you prefer.
