Select, Delete and Move Data

  • SELECT DATA
  • To select data inside a cell or cells is very simple and easy to do. Simply click on the cell that that contains the data you want to select and it will be selected. For the image below, that cell containing the name Chidera has been selected.

    If you want to select more than one data, hold down the click button and drag your mouse from the beginning of where you want to select to the ending. Then release your mouse click and that data will be selected.

    After selecting data, you can choose to format it or do anything else with the selected data. For example, you can choose to the clear content - This means deleting the data. And in excel when you clear content, the data will be deleted from that cell but the cell space will still remain.

  • Selecting All Cells
  • To select all the cells in the worksheet, click on the small Right Angle Triangle shape at the top left corner of the worksheet.

  • DELETE DATA
  • Select the data you want to delete and press the delete key on your keyboard and it will be deleted.

    Also, to delete data in a particular row, move the mouse pointer to the labelled number of the row you want to delete (notice the mouse pointer changes to an arrow head). Click on the labelled number, the entire row will be selected.

    Now Right Click on it, and a dropdown list will display. Click on the Delete option and that row will be deleted. OR press the Delete key on your keyboard.

    To delete data in a particular column, move the mouse pointer to the labelled letter of the column you want to delete and click on it, the entire column will be selected.

    Now Right Click on it, and a dropdown list will display. Click on the Delete option and that column will be deleted. OR press Delete key on your keyboard.

  • MOVE DATA
  • To move a data from one position to another in your worksheet involves the simple three steps below

  • Step 1 - Select the data you want move, right click on it. From the dropdown list displayed, click on the Cut option.

  • Step 2 - Notice the selected data that is cut now has a matching ants around it

  • Step 3 - Right Click on the position that you want to move the data to, and from the displayed dropdown list click on the Paste option.

  • Step 4 - The data is now moved to that position.
