Merging Cells

Merging cells is the operation that has to do with combining two or more cells to become one cell. To learn this, follow the simple step below.

  • Step 1 - Select the cells that you want to merge.

  • Step 2 - Click the Home tab, go to the Alignment group and click the dropdown button beside the Merge and Center button. From the list of options displayed, click on Merge Cells.

  • Step 3 - Cells have been successfully merged as one cell.

There are other options which you can also use while merging cells. These options include:

  • Merge and Center This option will merge selected cells and align the text inside the cells to the center.
  • Merge Across This option will merge the selected cells in the same row into one cell.

Lastly before I move into to the next tutorial, you can also unmerge cells using similar method above. Click on the cell you want to unmerge, go the Home tab, inside the Alignment group click the dropdown button beside the Merge and Center button. From the displayed options, click on Unmerge Cells and the cell will be successfully unmerged.

NOTE:

You can only unmerge cell that was previously merged. If you try to unmerge a cell that was not merged before, there will be no effect on it.
